Don't Fear The Shell...

Today I realized that I've been in the shell for 5 years and I hadn't even caught on to it until just now. It's been many flavors too...BSD, Red Hat, Debian and some Windows. Here are some thoughts...

Starting out with the bash shell...

The "shell" is a place that seems a bit scary at first, sometimes you make a mistake but you made a backup first, right? After carrying on long enough you'll realize you have a far better understanding of what's going on (or not) in a shell then you do with a GUI.

Why use the command prompt...

What drives me to the command prompt over and over again is the fact that I can't stand it when I click a button... nothing happens. I want to know why it didn't work and where did it fail...

Example of using the linux vs windows...

Don't you just wish when windows decides not to boot it would tell you what's actually going wrong instead of giving you a look like it's a cow in the road.
